The Webfooted Astronomer - October 1999

Vote on Annual Banquet Menu at October SAS Meeting

by Jerry West

The annual Seattle Astronomical Society banquet will be held January 29, 2000, at the Yankee Diner, 5300 24th N.W. in Ballard.

At the September meeting, we took a vote on the menu. However, there have been a few complaints with regard to the outcome of the vote. The complaints, in my opinion, are justifiable. Therefore, there will be a second vote at the October SAS meeting. We will vote on the menu selections, and then we will have a runoff vote for the top two selections. Here are the choices (tax and gratuity included):

  • Pot Roast or Grilled Chicken: $18.54/plate
  • London Broil or Baked Cod: $19.48/plate
  • Top Sirloin or Salmon: $21.29/plate
  • Prime Rib or Salmon: $25.05/plate

After the menu has been determined, we will vote to determine the ratio of the selected item, for example, London Broil or Baked Cod. There will be a vegetarian plate, but I will have to negotiate this item when I turn in the menu selection.

The menu must be confirmed by Oct. 21. The gratuity is 16 percent, and the tax is 9.1 percent. The head count must be confirmed by January 25, 2000. The banquet hours are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The room rent after 8:30 p.m. is $95 per hour for 2 hours (figured in the per plate cost). Drinks will be available for the first two hours. Reception table, display table, and microphone are included.
