The Webfooted Astronomer - March 2001
Get Ready for Astronomy Day
By Mary Ingersoll
ASTRONOMY Day is Saturday, April 28. We have been invited once again by the Pacific Science Center to bring our telescopes (and solar filters) to give the public the opportunity to learn more about amateur astronomy.
All participating volunteers will be given a complimentary pass to the IMAX film "Solarmax," and free parking. The telescopes in our lending library will be available to those of you who do not have one to share. We will also need volunteers to help at our information table. If you are interested in helping, please call Mary Ingersoll at 206-246-0977.
If you are interested in making your own solar filter for Astronomy Day (or any day that the Sun is out), contact Mary Ingersoll. I am looking into purchasing a large sheet of filter material that Randy Johnson says is better than a glass filter. We'll cut up the sheet into individual portions for your telescope or binoculars. Call Mary (or e-mail at email@example.com) to let her know how much you would like to have. Call Randy at 206-772-4322 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org for specifics on the filter material.
