Approval of Minutes
The March board minutes were approved.
Discussion of In-City Site
Most of the meeting was spent continuing the discussion from the
March board meeting, concerning a possible in-city site for the
club. See Stephen Van Rompaey for details.
The point was raised that although a dark-sky site would be a great asset for the club, moving forward with the in-city site will not take much club resources. So we could still look for dark-sky sites later.
There was some discussion of the quality of the telescope at the candidate in-city site. On the whole it is in good shape, but there is still value that club members can provide in its upkeep.
Karl Schroeder noted that this site had been considered in the past. Its ownership then and now is in a somewhat awkward state. The most qualified owners aren't terribly interested in it.
There were several questions about what we would get in return for any resources we provided. For instance, what about partial time to use the facilities for meetings, and storage? Stephen will consider this moving forward.
Stephen pointed out that the club might be able to help with administrative duties as well as physical upkeep. For instance, we could apply for grants to maintain and upgrade the facility.
There was some discussion of other possible sites in the city, and a post-mortem of other efforts concerning the City Parks. One general theme from past dealings was that we should as a club attempt to gather a clearer picture of the other party's wants and needs.
Stephen will follow-up with contacts at the site, and will keep the board (and club) informed of the progress.
